Early-Career Faculty Professional Development & Leadership Conference
The Early-Career Faculty Professional Development and Leadership Conference is for faculty who have been in their positions for five years or less.
The conference gives new faculty practical footing in the parts of academic veterinary medicine: building a scholarship record, navigating publishing and research, understanding service expectations, communicating effectively in an academic environment, and managing the pressures that come with the early years. The 2027 program will include a session on burnout.
Just as valuable is the room itself. Attendees come from veterinary colleges across the country and leave with a network of peers at the same career stage, along with senior faculty and administrators who can offer perspective.
The next conference will be held March 19-20, 2027, in Atlanta, Georgia. The AAVC charges no registration fee and provides all meals. Each college of veterinary medicine nominates the early-career faculty who attend. Information will be sent to department heads and hospital directors in November 2026.
