About the AAVC

The American Association of Veterinary Clinicians supported and enhanced veterinary postgraduate clinical training and academic medicine since 1958. Our role is to support, educate, and connect — not to regulate or certify. Member institutions include veterinary colleges across the United States and Canada, and clinical faculty at those institutions are members as well.

The AAVC is led by an Executive Committee of volunteers drawn from member institutions, supported by a full-time Executive Director.

About the VIRMP

The AAVC sponsors the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program, which matches veterinary graduates into internship and residency programs at academic institutions and private practices. Participation is voluntary for both applicants and programs. Not all programs that offer internships and residencies participate. Applicants and programs each submit a confidential ranked list of preferences, and a neutral process pairs them.

Published data

The AAVC publishes summary results for every match year going back more than a decade. These data are available on the VIRMP Match Data page.

Programs and recognition

Beyond the VIRMP, the AAVC hosts professional development and leadership conferences for veterinary residents and early-career faculty, convenes department heads and hospital directors from member institutions annually, and presents awards recognizing excellence in teaching, clinical research, residency training, and service to the organization.
