Without objection, a quorum was noted to conduct business of the Membership of the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – June 1, 2005
The minutes of the meeting of June 1, 2005 were brought up for consideration. Without objection, there was unanimous consent to approve the minutes as published. PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Dr. Cecil Moore
Dr. Moore recapped the future needs of the AAVC that were discussed at the Department Heads and Hospital Directors meeting in Atlanta in March. Reports on many of the topics discussed are posted on the AAVC website.
Dr. Moore thanked Dr. Michael Garvey for his work on the Veterinary Internship Matching Program. That program continues to be a great success.
AAVC will be co-sponsoring a symposium with the AAVMC regarding the future of Veterinary Teaching Hospitals, November 9-11 in Kansas City.
Dr. Arighi first noted several task forces on which AAVC has been participating, relating to the future of Veterinary Teaching Hospitals and benchmarking.
She then reviewed the policies for nominations for AAVC officers, and the deadlines protocol. Typically AAVC conducts its elections in April and the results are announced at the Annual Meeting in June. Because there is usually a better attendance at the Department Heads and Hospital Directors meeting in March, the Executive Committee will be looking at moving up the elections process to earlier in the year and making the necessary AAVC constitutional changes to do so. The dates will be January 15, nominations, February 1, mail ballots and March 1, due back. The results will be announced at the Annual Department Head and Hospital Directors Meeting.
Dr. Arighi noted that the department heads and hospital directors list serve and the AAVC membership list serve are both up to date.
In the absence of Dr. Fingland, Dr. Moore reviewed the financial reports as prepared by the administrative office (Attachment I). Those reports included the Balance Sheet as of May 28, 2006 and the Income and Expense Report from July 1, 2005 through May 15, 2006. Dr. Moore thanked Dr. Fingland for his diligence and hard work. It was moved and seconded to approve the treasurer’s report. The motion carried.
President Arighi noted that Dr. DeBowes attended the AVMA Meeting last summer and a leadership conference over winter. He is waiting to hear from AAVC’s newly assigned AVMA liaison.
Dr. Arighi thanked the attendees for their participation in the AAVC Annual Meeting.
Awards Committee Chair Dr. Corinne Sweeney announced Dr. Leah Cohn with the University of Missouri as the 2006 recipient of the Faculty Achievement Award. Dr. Sweeney presented the 2006 Resident Award to Dr. Andrea Balch with Mississippi State University. Dr. Cohn and Dr. Balch received the applause of the attendees.
The results of the 2006 Matching Program were noted (Attachment II).
